Integrated cases: reading a geopolitical brief

A geopolitics case mixes a tool list, named standards, an IMF request and a risk register; you win by sorting each item to its framework before you reason about investment effects.

In short

  • Map tools to quadrants by two tests: does the tool restrict or increase cross-border flows (cooperation), and is it nationalist or globalized in reach.
  • Name the standardization type from the problem it solved: supervision rules (regulatory cooperation), payment messaging (process), container sizes (operational synchronization).
  • An IMF request has four extractable parts: objective, conditions, amount and period with reviews. The loan is temporary and conditional.
  • Risk types: event (set date), exogenous (sudden), thematic (known and evolving, including an ongoing conflict). Then weigh likelihood, velocity and impact together.
  • A persistent risk premium raises the discount rate, so the same cash flow is worth less.
